Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, on Wednesday, flagged off the road constructions in the State capital city of Gusau, to commence his administration’s urban renewal project.

Phase one of the urban renewal project commenced with four road constructions covering 3.5 kilometres, including junction improvements and drainage.

A statement by the spokesperson to the Governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the flag-off ceremony was held at Gidan Sambo, opposite the Police Station in Gusau.

He explained that the road construction was part of what Governor Lawal had promised during the electioneering campaigns; to build more roads, as well as modernise and maintain existing ones.

The statement read in parts “At the ceremony, Governor Lawal reiterated that urban renewal is one of his Administration’s top priorities aimed at addressing the lack of development in cities and towns since the creation of Zamfara State.

“The first phase of the project involves reconstructing and improving 3.5km of township roads in Gusau, the State capital, as well as enhancing the drainage system.

“The construction will cover Bello Barau Roundabout – Old Market Road, Bello Barau Roundabout – Central Police Station Road, Bello Barau Roundabout – Government House Road, and Kwanar Yan Keke – Emir’s Palace – Tankin Ruwa Road.

“The Zamfara State Government believed that by making roads more accessible and reliable, it creates an environment that attracts investments, boosts tourism, and empowers local businesses.

“The governor also urged the residents of Gusau town to be patient during the construction phase, adding that genuine progress sometimes comes with temporary inconveniences, but the results will far outweigh the difficulties.”
