Ahead of Boki nation’s New Yam Festival, which kicks off this Friday, August 18, 2023 in Cross River State, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, Hon. Abang Pius Bissong, has charged youths in the area not to engage in any behaviour that is inimical to the unity and peace of the nation, saying what they needed was to engage in the promotion of peace and unity of the people.

Bissong gave the charge while answering questions from LEADERSHIP on the New Yam Festival celebrated annually by indigenes of Boki nation, at home, and abroad every August 18.

He charged the youths in the area to shun deviant and violent behaviours and avoid dragging the good image of Boki nation into the mud.

The APC chieftain, who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ab Amani Jojo Global Concept, kicked against rancour and acrimony of any form, calling on all to work towards the unity and peace of Boki nation so that they can work at par with their counterparts from other communities in the state.

While describing the celebration of the yam festival as a value, and cultural heritage, which is ancient and must be sustained, Bissong said, “With unity and peace of the people, we can be sure of development. If we work as a team, only the sky will be our limit.

“Nothing attracts progressives like working as a team. Teamwork, they say, is the surest way to achieve success.

“This is why we must see it as an individual responsibility to preach against divisive tendencies. This is because we are one,” he stated.

He described the festival as a season of cultural rebirth, reunification and celebration of the new yam as the ‘king of crops’, stressing that Boki is richly blessed with fertile land and the people must prioritise agriculture.
