Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya (rtd) and other high-ranking military officers have unveiled a book in honour of the former Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf (rtd).
Taking turns, they stressed the need for capacity-building of commanders and subordinates to overcome the myriad of security challenges facing the nation.
The book, which is a compendium of written tributes dedicated to Major General Yusuf, is to serve as a guiding manuscript for aspiring cadres of junior officers within the military.
Titled, “Welfare, Command And Capacity Building In Nigeria,” the book was formally unveiled at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja.
General Yahaya noted that the book serves as a foundation for building the capacities of the burgeoning military personnel, propelling them to triumph.
He said it illuminates the strategies for effective ‘command’ while chronologically narrating the practical lifetime exploits of field commanders.
“This is a compilation of well-rounded experiences from both those who mentored him and his superiors, all of whom contributed to the creation of this book,” he said.
General Yahaya emphasised the importance for commanders to prioritise the well-being and consistent training of their subordinates.
“They should delve into the very essence of how one achieves outcomes, akin to the intricacies of military warfare,” he said.
In his remarks, Major General Yusuf said the book would serve as a motivational impetus to contribute back to the armed forces and by extension, the broader society fostering the growth of capacities from nascent military students to higher echelons of command.
Yusuf said the compilation, painstakingly curated by academia within the precincts of the NDA, meticulously documents the feats of distinguished retired military leaders, all for building the capacity of the rising cadres of junior officers.
