JUST-IN: 8 Corps Members, Driver Abducted In Zamfara

Eight National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members have been abducted in Zamfara State.

The corps members were on transit from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State in an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus for their one-year national service.

A senior official of the transport company confirmed the incident to an online newspaper, News Point Nigeria, on Tuesday.

According to the source, the bus was conveying 11 corps members and the driver, but three of the corps members escaped while eight corps members were abducted alongside the driver.

“They left here (Uyo) on Friday, and slept over in Abuja. It was when they were proceeding to Sokoto that they were kidnapped. The corps members were offloaded (from the bus) and taken into the bush. The police have recovered the bus,” the official reportedly said.

Two of the abducted corps members were identified by social media users.

A Facebook user, Malachy Blessed, identified one of the abductees as Emmanuel Esudue, a graduate of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, Akwa Ibom State University, saying Esudue’s phone number had been unreachable since Thursday.

Another Facebook user, Edidiong Richard, posted that the kidnappers had contacted the parents of a victim, Betty Udofia, demanding N4m ransom.
