The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his dedication to strengthen the 11-year-old partnership between the State Government and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
This is even as the governor expressed the need for about six million vaccine doses to fight diphtheria outbreak in the State.
During a meeting at the Government House, Kano, on Tuesday, Governor Yusuf assured representatives from the Foundation of his commitment to the existing partnership to enhance healthcare services in the State.
The State’s deputy governor, Comr. Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, disclosed this while receiving a delegation from the Foundation on behalf of the Governor, stressing the state’s determination to improve healthcare across all levels.
According to a statement sent out to journalists by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, on Wednesday, Governor Yusuf highlighted the need for about six million vaccine doses to combat the recent diphtheria outbreak in the State.
“He also expressed gratitude to the Foundation for its support in the health sector and expressed interest in the Foundation’s involvement in areas like agriculture and digital finance,” he stated.
Mr. Jerremy Zungurana, the leader of the Foundation’s Nigerian delegation, praised the enduring partnership and applauded the state’s efforts in healthcare development.
He also promised sustainable assistance for the state’s initiatives as requested by Governor Yusuf.
