The minister of sports development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has charged referee assessors in the country to constantly update their capacities with a view to bringing a turn around in the performances of the domestic leagues.
He gave the charge when he had a stop over where the referee assessors were holding their training.
Senator Enoh, who was led to the stop-over by the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Sports Development, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, during an inspection of facilities at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, observed that all through the years, Nigerian referees have been heavily criticised over their performances in nation’s football leagues.
*I want to, however, trust that we will build on the recent successes achieved and win the confidence of our people,” he said.
The former lawmaker in a press statement by the director of press and public relation, Federal Ministry of Sports Development, Muhammed Manger, noted that referees are critical stakeholders of the game of football, and thus need constant training and retraining in order to enhance their capacity for the development of sports in the country.
