Two Customs officers with the Kebbi State Area Command have been allegedly killed at their duty post along Bunza-Dakingari-Koko Highway by suspected bandits.
The command’s public relations officer, Mubarak Mustapha, an assistant superintendent of Customs, made this known in a statement issued yesterday in Birnin Kebbi.
He said the deceased – Kabiru Shehu, an inspector of Customs and Abdullahi Mohamed, Customs assistant 11 – were killed when they engaged with heavily armed suspected bandits.
According to him, the deceased have since been buried according to Islamic rites.
The PRO added that the Customs controller, Dr Ben Olamalugo has since extended his condolences and commiserated with the deceased’s families over the unfortunate incident.
The controller who ordered a manhunt for the suspected bandits with a view to arresting them, urged members of the public to volunteer to feed the command with relevant information about the suspects, smugglers and other criminals in the state.
