Secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, has urged the federal government to adopt the lecture delivered by the late secretary-general of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo, at the oil and gas conference, hours to his death, in addressing the challenges of the industry in Nigeria.
Mustapha said despite the fact that oil prices are up, Nigerians can’t see the benefits being translated to the daily needs of the people because of the heavy loans under recovery (subsidy) being paid.
He said the government was hoping that the world would release the deceased to Nigeria so that he could spend more time helping the country in addressing the current challenges in terms of resources available for the government to expend and continue on the trajectory of laying solid infrastructure in the country.
The SGF spoke in Yola, Adamawa State yesterday during when he condoled with the government and people of the state over the death of Barkindo.
“I believe he was able to transmit to stakeholders at the oil and gas conference on what needs to be done for the future of the oil and gas industry. Despite the fact that oil prices are up, we can’t see the benefits being translated to the daily needs of our people because of the heavy loans under recovery (subsidy) being paid,” he said.
The SGF said the late Barkindo had come home on a farewell visit and to find time to spend with his family during Eid-el Kabir Sallah festivity and described his demise as a great loss.
“He (Barkindo) would have been helpful to Nigeria, especially in dealing with challenges of meeting OPEC quota,” he said
Also yesterday, Mustapha condoled with the families of Alhaji Danlami Mallam Danladi and his elderly sister Hajiya Rabi Mallam Danladi who died the same day along NEPA Road in Jimeta.
Earlier, the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, who received the SGF at his palace, thanked him for identifying with the people of the state over the deaths.
