The newly appointed commissioner, Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Hon Abdullahi Bego has assured people that the ministry will always engage the public in an honest and reputable way in disseminating government activities and programmes.
Bego who was spoke while taking over the affairs of the ministry in Damaturu said the administration of Hon Mai Mala Buni remained committed to ensuring that the public are being informed of all its activities for transparency and accountability.
The commissioner said the job of the ministry is to reflect and project the progress Yobe is making under very difficult and challenging economic circumstances and reflect people’s feedback across sectors so that the work of governance continues in an effective and broadly beneficial way.
“Yobe’s information sector will engage with the public in an honest and respectable way. We will serve as a bridge between the government and the people.
“We will do this increasingly professionally so that the bond of trust between the government and the people is rebuilt and strengthened. But we will not resort to propaganda. That’s not what His Excellency, our governor intends with these current changes,” he said.
Bego, reassured of his commitments towards prioritizing training and retraining of information sector with a view to tap from the endowments of social media and fend off the ills of fake news, misinformation and disinformation appropriately.
The overseeing permanent secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Kashim Kalli reassured readiness of the staff of the ministry towards gathering necessary support and backing to the commissioner for him to succeed in actualizing the policies of Governor Mai Mala Buni across the state.
Hon Bego has equally handed over the affairs of his former ministry, the ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation where he served as the commissioner and the immediate past senior special assistant on Wealth Creation to the newly appointed commissioner Hon Aji Yarima Bularafa also in Damaturu.
