Residents of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital have commended the member representing Jere federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon Ahmed Satomi for selling 100,000 litres of fuel at the rate of N430 per litre as against N637 per litre in Maiduguri.

The residents made the commendation yesterday during the dispensing of 100,000 litres of fuel by the lawmaker in 24 petrol stations within Maiduguri Metropolitan Council ( MMC) and Jere local government area.

Welfare officer National Automobiles and Technicians Association (NATA) Ibrahim Helma, while commending the lawmaker urged well meaning individuals in the state to emulate the gesture by Satomi and give succour to the masses due to the high cost of living and transportation as a result of fuel subsidy removal.

He said most commercial tricycle ( Keke Napep) riders and motorists in the areas of the distribution are smiling to the chosen petrol stations to benefit from the gesture , adding that it goes a long way in ameliorating the suffering of the beneficiaries.

A commercial tricycle operator, Modu Tijani, who said he has been out of business since the sudden rise in price of fuel as a result of the fuel subsidy removal, said the gesture from the lawmaker will enable some of his colleagues that are out of business to bounce back.

“ We are very grateful to Hon. Satomi for coming to our aid in this trying period. We want more of this from other lawmakers and good spirited members of the public to assist the poor in passing through the hardship ravaging them,” Tijani said.

Addressing journalists, the donor and member representing Jere federal constituency, Hon Ahmed Satomi, who is also the chairman House Committee on National Security and Intelligence at the National Assembly, said the programme which was flagged off on Saturday in eight petrol stations is a continuous process, adding that 100,000  litres of fuel have  been made available for dispensing to the motorists and residents irrespective of political affiliation.

He however called on well-to-do individuals and organisations to emulate the gesture so as to impact positively on the living condition of all Nigerians, as according to him, palliatives should not be carried out by government alone.
