Kuje Jailbreak: 2 Wanted Terrorists Re-arrested In FCT, Niger

Two of the 69 Boko Haram terrorists who escaped from Kuje Correctional Centre it was attacked by insurgents have been re-arrested.

One of the escapees was arrested in Area I Motor Park in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) while the other was picked up in Suleja, Niger State.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) yesterday nabbed the escapee, Suleiman Sidi, with three wraps of cannabis sativa at Area 1 Motor Park while attempting to board a commercial vehicle to Maiduguri, Borno State.

The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi said during preliminary interview, the wanted terror suspect confirmed he was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre for terrorism and robbery charges, adding that he was one of the inmates who escaped from the facility last Tuesday.

While commending the officers and men of the FCT command of the agency for the arrest and their vigilance, chairman/chief executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) directed that the wanted suspect be handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS.

The second escapee, Kazeem Murtala, the Niger State police public relations officer Wasiu Abiodun was arrested by operatives attached to ‘A’ Division, Suleja while on patrol around General Hospital, Suleja down to Bakassi area.

He said based on credible intelligence, the police stormed an identified compound and arrested Murtala aged 54 years.

Abiodun said during interrogation, the inmate confessed that he escaped from Kuje Custodial Centre during the attack where he was serving jail term after conviction for an offence he committed and has been in custody for the past two years.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police, Niger State, Monday Bala Kuryas, has lauded the effort of the patrol team and directed that the inmate should be transferred to the custodial centre with, without any delay.
