The Ilorin Likeminds Foundation yesterday solicited the support of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, in conducting free medical outreach for the emirate’s people on Saturday in Ilorin.
Alhaji Saheed Alakoso, President of the Foundation, made the request on behalf of the body during the executive members’ courtesy visit to the Emir in Ilorin.
Alakoso said the Foundation, which began in the year 2021, has the aim of giving back to the society from what its members earned from their income as civil servants.
“The people who make up the Foundation include Permanent Secretaries, Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), Directors, Professors and top civil servants, both serving and retired.
”The Foundation has been doing some philanthropy activities since its inception, like feeding fasting Muslims, training students on technology and assisting the less privileged in the society,” he said.
Alakoso however said they plan to conduct a medical outreach for the less privileged in Ilorin and its environs, thereby soliciting for the support of the Emir.
In his response, the Emir of Ilorin appreciated the Foundation for its intention to assist the people of Ilorin and promote love and togetherness.
Sulu-Gambari, who is also the Chairman of Kwara Council of Chiefs, said the Foundation’s idea was one of his prayers for the people of Ilorin Emirate.
”It is for my people to prosper and help others.
“I do know that you have good plans for the people of Ilorin, but try and stay focused on your intention in order to succeed.
“Organise a monthly meeting that will hold in members’ homes, to create more love and togetherness among yourselves and your families, as well as increase the standard of living in various homes,” he said.
Sulu-Gambari noted that the wise ones among people think as like minds, irrespective of their language or region, while the fools and dullards think in the same way also.
He however said the worst set of people are the intelligent ones who are self-centered and want everything for themselves.
“The truth and certain things about this life is that those that are rich and refuse to assist the poor will eventually become poor, no matter how long,” the Emir said.
He then prayed for the Foundation to succeed and progress with lots of sustenance and good health and for it to live long.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the foundation will organise free eye-screening, surgery and medical check-up for the less privileged in the community.
There will also be talks on health insurance and environmental sanitation.
The proposed area of outreach includes Pakata Primary School, the Emir’s Palace and Dada Okelele Area of Ilorin from 9 a.m. on Saturday.(NAN)
