To stem immoral behaviours and other social vices, the Yobe State House of Assembly has organised a public hearing on the proposed Hisbah Commission Bill.

The public hearing attended by the officials from the state Ministry of Religious Affairs led by its commissioner, Alhaji Yusuf Umar, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations among other stakeholders was part of measures towards passing the bill.

The speaker of the House, Hon Chiroma Buba Mashio while declaring the public hearing open in Damaturu said the bill sent to the House by the executive has since passed first and second reading hence the public hearing before its passage.

Mashio while speaking on the public hearing for the establishment of the Yobe State Information Technology Development Agency equally said the bill has scaled first and second reading hence the conduct of the exercise by the house standing committee on justice as outlined by the law.

“On behalf of all honourable members and staff I would like to express my most sincere appreciation and gratitude for your presence in this Honourable House to contribute in making legislation which is in line with the mission of promoting good governance through ‘effective and efficient legislations with public engagement.

“As you may be aware, the House received the two executive bills and both were read for the first and second time and committed to the House Committees on Justice, Judiciary and Religious Affairs and that of Information for in-depth legislative scrutiny.

“It is in this regard that all stakeholders in the religious and information sectors from across the state were invited to submit their memoranda and its inputs to enable the committees to come up with people-oriented laws which are in line with international best practice,” the speaker said.
