Customs Generates N1.904bn, Intercepts N1.82bn Contrabands In Lagos

The Seme border command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has generated a whooping N1.04 billion from January to 8th September, 2023.

Speaking during a press briefing, the Customs Area Controllers, Compt. Dera Nnadi, said the command Intercepted contrabands worth N1.82 billion in the months under review.

According to him, the command has met 97 percent of its target, saying the achievement was a result of painstaking efforts made by the leadership of the Command in partnership with stakeholders to ensure compliance with the Command’s revenue generation agenda.

“The revenue target for the Command for the year 2023 is N1.960 billion. However, as of 8th of September, 2023, the Command has collected N1.90 billion. This represents 97.2 per cent of the N1,960 billion allotted target for the year 2023.

“In the corresponding period under review for the year 2022, the revenue was N885.5 billion. The implication is that the Commands revenue profile witnessed a tremendous increase of N1.018 billion. This was a result of painstaking efforts made by the leadership of the Command in partnership with our stakeholders to ensure compliance with our revenue generation agenda.”

Nnadi, however, stated that the Duty Paid Value (DPV), for items seized between January to 8th September, 2023 is N1.82 billion.

“In the area of anti-smuggling operations, you are already conversant with our past headline seizures where fake $6million equivalent to N2.7 billion. This is in addition to other notable seizures recorded between January and August 2023 such as 16 trailer loads of foreign parboiled rice with Duty Paid Value of N312.2 million

“Other are, 13, 835 x 30 litres Jerry Cans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), equivalent to 415, 050 litres or 13 petroleum tankers with DPV of N738 million. 15,389 of General Merchandise Goods.

“Hard Drugs and Narcotics: 41 parcels of Cannabis Sativa; 4,900 Tablets 225mg of Tramadol Tamol-X; 3,600 Tablets 225mg Tramadol Royal; 157 Tablets of Heineken Ecstasy and 864 Packs of Cigarette.”
