Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu yesterday charged the new cabinet members to reflect excellence in their duties and ensure delivery of THEMES’ Plus developmental agenda of the administration to the teeming residents of the state in the second term tenure.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, gave the charge after the swearing-in ceremony for the 38 newly inaugurated Commissioners and Special Advisers, held at Adeyemi Bero, Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
The governor also said that as the new cabinet members prepare for the challenges ahead, they must see their appointment as a unique privilege and a call to service.
Sanwo-Olu said, “This event is historic. The members of the state Executive Council have been painstakingly chosen. They are emblems of what Lagos is all about.”
He commended the assembly for the support, while seeking more collaboration, saying residents would be the bigger beneficiaries at the end.
“Meeting the targets is not an option. You must reflect excellence in your duty with the best interest of the people at heart,” he charged.
The governor who spoke for the first time about the series of rejection of his nominees by the state Assembly discarded the alleged rift between him and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
The governor said the furore generated by the rejection of his cabinet nominees was normal but insisted that there was no rift between him, the Speaker and the lawmakers.
The new appointees and their portfolios are: Lawal Pedro; Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Bolaji Dada; Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Akin Abayomi; Commissioner for Health, Tokunbo Wahab; Commissioner for Environment, Moruf Akinderu Fatai; Commissioner for Housing and Gbenga Omotoso; Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
