The Bauchi Democracy and Transparency Watch Group (BDTW) has called on the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to charge stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State with contempt for their remarks regarding a pending suit challenging Governor Bala Mohammed’s victory in the March 2023 polls. The group views these comments as an attempt to undermine the impartiality of the judiciary in the ongoing case and deems such behavior unacceptable.

Lawal Sani Ningi, Chairman of BDTW, issued a statement urging the tribunal to take swift and decisive action in response to these remarks. He emphasized that the group advocates for a free and fair electoral process and expects all parties involved to act with integrity. Any attempts to undermine the democratic process, according to Ningi, should be met with appropriate action.

BDTW also called on all stakeholders to respect the independence of the judiciary and allow the legal process to proceed without interference. They further urged the media to report responsibly and avoid sensationalism that could contribute to unnecessary tension surrounding the issue.

The group expressed disappointment with APC stakeholders for describing the election that brought Governor Bala Mohammed to power for the second time as a “stolen mandate.” They deemed such comments unethical and a breach of decorum, accusing the APC of being irritating and overbearing. BDTW called on the APC stakeholders to refrain from making baseless allegations and to respect the will of the people.
