The organised Labour in Nigeria comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), on Tuesday, jointly declared an indefinite nationwide strike to protest against the federal government’s failure to implement palliative measures following the removal of fuel subsidy.
The strike, which is expected to commence by midnight of Tuesday, October 3, 2023, will paralyse all economic activities in the country as the Labour Centres have directed members to withdraw their services.
At a joint briefing by the congresses after their separate emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meetings, the they accused the federal government of inability to engage the organised labour in meaningful negations on issues raised.
They said that the federal government has shown unwillingness and lack of intention to address the issues raised by the organised labour, which border on the suffering of workers and the larger Nigerian masses.
