Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, has denied allegations of falsification of age against her by some directors in the Office of the Accountant-general of the Federation. The directors had also accused her of accepting inducements to post accountants to choice ministries departments and agencies (MDAs), an allegation she described as spurious, insubstantial and baseless.

Madein made the reaction in a statement by the director of press in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation Mr Bawa Mokwa. She said the allegations did not come as a surprise because “the office of the AGF is a competitive position and often falls victim to unjustified attacks”.

The accountant-general told anybody that is interested in verifying her records to go to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) where she submitted her documents.

Some aggrieved directors in the Office of the AGF had through their legal advisor, petitioned the minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, accusing Madein of falsifying her age and bribing her way to becoming the AGF despite not passing the special professional examination conducted for all shortlisted directors for the appointment among others.

The director in the petition said Madein didn’t qualify as the best candidate for the office having emerged second behind one Mr. Olakunle Oladipupo, now posted as director of Finance in the Ministry of Works.

They also alleged that the AGF engaged in a “cash lobbying venture” to post accountants to various MDAs among others

The “concerned staff” allege that Madein did not pass the special professional examination conducted for all shortlisted candidates for appointment into the Office of Accountant General of the Federation.

The petitioners claim that she placed second in the selection process behind another candidate. They equally alleged that Madein adjusted her age from March 7, 1963, to March 7, 1965, in order to extend her service year.

The petitioners urged President Bola Tinubu to take action against Madein by ordering her arrest, investigation, and possible prosecution.
