As Nigeria marks its 63rd Independence Day anniversary on October 1, 2023, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has cautioned against prophesying negativities about the country.
Makinde gave the admonition during the 63rd Independence Celebration Walk, organised in commemoration of the event by the state government.
Makinde, who was represented by the secretary to the state government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, led top government functionaries and other members of the public in the walk.
The 2.5-kilometre walk took off from the Government House Arcade, Agodi, Ibadan, at 8am while the participants walked through Queen Elizabeth Road, Total Garden and Oritamefa-Secretariat Road.
Addressing newsmen at the end of the walk which terminated at the front of the Governor’s Office, Makinde expressed optimism that the country shall be great and charged Nigerians to always put the nation first in their activities rather than focusing on its negative sides.
The governor said the walk portrayed the strength, doggedness and the ability of Nigerians to surmount their challenges.
Among the participants were the chief of staff to the governor, the head of service MrsOlubumi Oni, commissioners, permanent secretaries and some political appointees.
