A security watch organisation and advocacy group in the Niger Delta, Warri Urban Security Network (WUSN),  yesterday said the current crackdown on notorious armed robbery and kidnapping gangs by the Delta State police command would bring relief to Delta communities.

The group which thanked the state commissioner of police, Wale Abass and his men for their efforts noted that  people of the state can now sleep well  since the arrest of gang leader, Emomotimi David.

The group also thanked the inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for posting Wale Abass to the state police command, adding that under him,  the crime level in the state had reduced.

In a statement signed by Chief Frank Onoriode and Barrister Dafe Okpako, the chairman and secretary respectively, the group thanked the police commissioner for his support to his men and the divisional police officer in Ekpan Division, CSP Shaba, who led the team that made the arrest.

“We cannot thank enough the CP Wale Abass for both the logistics and moral support he gave in the process of actualising this feat as well as the dogged and resilience of CSP Aliyu Shaba in crime fighting in the state. He has shown capacity and tenacity in the way and manner he discharges his police duties and his record of achievements speaks for itself,” it stated.

A group, South-South Professional & Transparency Initiatives (SSPTI), also praised the police command for the arrest of the armed robbery gang leader, Emomotimi, noting that the entire geo-political zone can now heave a sigh of relief as the suspect and his gang operated across various states in the region.

In a statement by Dr. Ugochukwu Alozie, the chairman and Engr. Kayode Ayomide, the publicity secretary, the group said with the arrest of the gang leader,  the region would get some peace as the gang carried out most of the violent crimes in recent times.
