The Coalition of Registered Civil Society Organisation in Nigeria (CRCSON) has called on President Bola Tinubu to assist the Controller General of Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, to to improve conditions in the Nigerian Correctional Service.
National president of the coalition, Comrade Opuama Joseph (JP), who made the call in Abuja yesterday, said there was serious congestion in most Nigerian prisons, a situation he said, that needs to be addressed and improved upon.
Opuama said the federal government should assist the service through improved budgetary allocations to support the current reforms being embarked upon by the controller general of the service.
He noted, however, that with the little budgetary allocation to the service, Haliru Nababa was able to utilise resources meant for the service.
He said the controller general had initiated and completed the NCS staff quarters in Abuja and ensured training and retraining of personnel to boost productivity in the service.
Also speaking, the secretary general of the coalition, Prince Joel Samoh, said the group is an auspice of various civil society groups in Nigeria with the mandate to promote peace, unity, and development of Nigeria.
Samoh added that the coalition is also saddled with the responsibilities of encouraging, promoting, and appreciating individuals, government officials, and associations that have contributed immensely to the well-being, growth, and development of our country.
