The Ebonyi State Police Command, on Monday, vowed to ensure the arrest and prosecution of suspected members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra and and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN), who attacked innocent motorists and commuters at the Ezzamgbo Junction in Ohaukwu local government area of the State.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, armed men suspected to be IPOB/ESN members in a sienna car attacked commuter buses, a tricycle and motorcycles at Ezzangbo junction on Monday.

She noted that the hoodlums burnt down three commuter buses, four motorcycles and one tricycle, adding, however, that no life was lost in the unfortunate attack

SP Onovwakpoyeya maintained that men of the Command have been dispatched to the scene of the attack in a bid to fish out the perpetrators.

“And we believe that before the end of the day, the perpetrators will be apprehended,” the PPRO stated.

An eyewitness, who spoke to LEADERSHIP on ground of anonymity, said that the suspected gunmen carried out the attack while enforcing the illegal Monday sit-at-home order, adding that the attack disrupted both vehicular and human movements along the ever-busy Abakaliki-Enugu expressway.

The eyewitness noted that the hoodlums targeted motorists and that they took time to set ablaze vehicles and motorcycles while terrified residents scampered for safety.

The eyewitness further revealed that the incident took place at about 8am on the Monday morning, adding that the hoodlums were bearing sophisticated weapons and we’re shooting sporadically into the air to scare away residents of the area who were already out for their daily activities.

Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored in the area as the heavy presence of security personnel was noticed within and outside the state capital city.
