Police Go After IPOB/ESN Members Over Burnt Buses, Motorcycles

Ebonyi State Police Commend has begun manhunt for suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) who attacked innocent motorists and commuters at the Ezzamgbo Junction in Ohaukwu local government area and burnt their vehicles and motorcycles.

In a statement signed by the police public relations officer, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, she said armed men suspected to be IPOB/ESN members in a Sienna car attacked commuter buses, tricycles and motorcycles at Ezzangbo junction.

She said the hoodlums burnt down three commuter buses, four motorcycles and one tricycle, adding that no life was lost in the unfortunate attack.

Onovwakpoyeya said men of the commend has been dispatched to the scene of the attack in a bid to fish out the perpetrators.

“And we believe that before the end of the day, the perpetrators will be apprehended,” she added.

An eyewitness who spoke to LEADERSHIP on grounds of anonymity said that the suspected gunmen were enforcing the illegal Monday sit-at-home order adding that the attack disrupted both vehicular and human movement along the ever-busy Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway.

The eyewitness said the hoodlums targeted motorists and took time to set ablaze vehicles and motorcycles while terrified residents scamper for safety.

He said the incident took place at about 8 o’clock in the morning adding that the hoodlums were bearing sophisticated weapons and were shooting sporadically into the air to scare residents of the area who were already out for their daily activities.

Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored in the area as heavy presence of security personnel were seen within and outside the state capital.
