Mentally Retarded Man Kills 8, Maims 7

Police in Adamawa State yesterday said a mentally retarded man, Ali Denham, a resident of Shelleng local government area of the state, on Wednesday night killed eight persons and  injured seven others at Libbo Ward in Kate-Gamji village.

Spokesman of the command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, told our correspondent in Yola that Denham, armed with a cutlass, attacked 15 people, killing eight.

He said; “The mentally sick Denham woke up from sleep at 11:30 pm on Wednesday, armed with a cutlass and started cutting any person he came across.

“In the process, he killed eight people and injured seven others who are currently receiving treatment.

“A mob from the area trailed the mad man and lynched him in the bush same night. Some of the deceased included a family of three.”

He also confirmed similar incident in Gombe last month, where a mentally sick man axed three people and beheaded his younger brother.
