Chairman of the Taraba State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT),  Comrade Nathan Solomon, has described as false, reports that the 18 months salary arrears owed teachers by the state government had been paid.

He also said the over two years union dues deducted from source from teachers’ salaries by the state’s primary education board had not been remitted to the union’s account.

The chairman stated this in reaction to the recent rumour that the state government had cleared the salary arrears former governor Darius Ishaku could not pay before leaving office.

He said; “I want to state clearly that we have not been paid the 18 months salary arrears we are being owed by the former governor Darius Ishaku, one mischievous thing the rumor may course is that teachers may have some dept to settle, for not taking salaries for close to two years, and with this kind of falsehood, somebody may decide to descend on them while the money is not there.

“What I once told journalists was that  teachers who were sacked by the recent past administration of former governor Ishaku have been reinstated by Governor Agbu Kefas.

“The sacked teachers were not paid for over 18 months but when the governor reinstated them he ordered that all their salaries should be paid and it was done accordingly.

“We are still pleading with the governor to prevail on the state primary education board to remit the over two years union dues to our account for us to continue with our activities.”
