They also struck in Gombe State where they kidnapped two residents.

Kaduna State police commissioner, Musa Yusuf Garba, who confirmed the incident yesterday, commiserated with the families of those who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident.

The attack was carried out by bandits last Friday at about 23:30 hours at Unguwan Dankali, Zaria local government area. One of the suspected attackers was arrested.

A statement issued by the police public relations officer (PPRO) of Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Munsur Hassan, disclosed that on receipt of a distress call during the attack, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Dan Magaji Division and the Area Commander Zaria Area Command, mobilised their personnel immediately to the location where six persons were found critically injured.

He said, the injured persons were immediately evacuated to the Muslim Clinic Hospital Zaria where the doctors on duty confirmed four of the victims dead, while the remaining victims were immediately admitted.

“Thereafter, the joint response teams consisting of the Police, Military and Civilian JTF went in pursuit of the bandits, and following superior fire power of the security forces, the hoodlums were forced to abandon five kidnapped victims namely: 1) Halima Musa ‘F’ 27 years, (2) Rukaiya Salisu ‘F’ 25 years, (3) Ummi Sadisu ‘F’, (4) Yusuf Musa ‘M’ 8 months, and (5) Aisha Rabiu ‘F’ 2 years.

“The victims were immediately rescued and conveyed to the above mentioned hospital. Meanwhile, one of the suspects, Mansir Umar ‘M’ of After Rail Unguwar Dankali was immediately arrested in possession of several military woodland camouflage wears and is strongly suspected to be one of the gunmen who attacked the said community,” he disclosed.

He said preliminary investigation has since commenced and the suspect is cooperating with the police while concerted effort is being intensified towards arresting the remaining fleeing bandits.

In the Gombe incident, gunmen on Saturday night stormed Dukku local government area and abducted two persons.

The victims were a man and a woman and were taken away by the gunmen in the midnight of Saturday when they raided the village shooting sporadically into the air.

Alhaji Sambo Umar Shabewa, a resident of the area who spoke with newsmen yesterday revealed that his wife, Amina Usman Aliyu and his younger brother, one Alhaji Mustapha Umar Shabewa, were taken away by the kidnappers.

He said the kidnappers burgled his house and allegedly targeted him for abduction but having realised that he was not around, they went away with his wife and brother.

He called on the authorities to help rescue the victims and protect the lives of the people of the community.

The police public relations officer (PPRO) of the state command, Mahid Muazu Abubakar, confirmed the incident and said that they were on top of the situation.

“We have confirmed the abduction of two persons from the Shabewa community of Dukku. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has directed the Operational Unit of Dukku Division and Anti Kidnapping of the command to ensure the victims are rescued unhurt”, he stated.
