Be Conscious Of Your Children’s Mental Health, Kukah Centre Urges Parents

The Kaduna office of Kukah Centre, in collaboration with Provincial Secretariat of Church and Society (HJDP) has urged parents and caregivers to be conscious of their children’s mental health.

The program officer of Kukah Centre Kaduna, Methodius Karfe, made the call during the weekend at a roundtable discussion on mainstreaming girl-child education in Kaduna State.

Mr. Karfe urged the governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, to invest more in girl-child education in order to break the culture of stigmatisation.

He decried the menace of hawking, especially by young girls, saying it is a serious nightmare in the state, adding that government needs to address the issue.

Karfe added that there was need for government, non-governmental organisations, CSOs and well-meaning Nigerians to empower girls with skills after their formal education.

The Kaduna State commissioner, Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, Hajia Rabi Salisu, in her goodwill message disclosed that the state government in partnership with Google had concluded plans to train 5,000 girls and women on data science, artificial intelligence and entrepreneurial application.

The commissioner who was represented by permanent secretary, Ministry of Human Services and Social Development,  Dorcas Iti said; “The effort is to promote digital inclusion and leverage in technology for economic technology and other interventions to improve the girl-child”.

According to her, learning helps the girl-child to break the shackles of exclusion and avert the challenges of illiteracy and poverty.

She said educating a girl-child improves the country’s economic growth, adding that education of a girls is education for the society.
