Barely 24 hours after the Senator Albert Akpan representing the Uyo Senatorial District (Akwa Ibom North-East) declared he was resigning from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday, his campaign office on Edet Akpan Avenue (Four Lanes), Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, has worn a new look.

Checks by our Correspondent at the weekend showed that the flags and other insignias of his governorship aspiration under his former party, PDP, have been removed and replaced with the Young Progressives Party (YPP) flags and other YPP imprints.

And his director in-charge of media, Chief Usoro I. Usoro, told our correspondent on Saturday, that “arrangements have been concluded to address a formal rally of supporters, elders and leaders concerning his interest to serve the state and the people as the next governor of Akwa Ibom in 2023, on the platform of YPP”.

Akpan’s move followed Friday’s Abuja High Court unfavorable rulling, in a case challenging the alleged use of “unapproved Ad-Hoc delegates” in the conduct of the governorship primary, which the former Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno, was declared winner by the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Phillips Shuaibu, who chaired the primary committee.

However, determined to see through his quest to succeed incumbent Governor Udom Emmanuel, the man popularly called Enin Ibiono Ibom (Elephant of Ibiono Ibom), has said he was “not deterred by the temporary setback”.

He said: ‘It is with the greatest sense of responsibility, purpose, and love for my people that I make bold this communication.

“I have been a loyal and committed member of the PDP, for over 20 years and have through the platform of the party served our people, state, and the nation diligently without any blemish, and I have by the grace of God contributed positively and impactfully to the growth and development of our dear country, state, and our people in general.
