The upper legislative chamber also appointed the Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Nwebonyi Peter Onyeka, as the new Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the new appointments during plenary on Wednesday.

Senator Ashiru replaces Senator David Umahi, who quit the Senate to pick up a ministerial appointment, while Senator Onyeka, who is also an APC member, replaces Ashiru, who was formerly the Deputy Chief Whip.

Ashiru, who was the former Deputy Chief Whip, was elevated to the position of Deputy Senate Leader, which became vacant following Umahi’s departure.
