The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Aare Gani Adams, has urged the federal government to complete the construction of Badagry Deep Seaport.

At the celebration of the 2023 edition of the Olokun Festival organised by the Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF), Adams said the facility, if completed, would be the largest deep seaport in Africa.

He said the multi-billion dollar seaport is a project with a lot of hope for Badagry, stressing that the prospects of having it in the town is a big relief.

“The federal government must work earnestly on the Badagry Port and Free Zone. The new deep-sea facility, if completed, will be the largest deep sea port in Africa.

Adams, however, called on the federal government to diversify the nation’s economy.

“The world has remained a global village. All over the world, great countries are doing wonders by looking beyond the ordinary but Nigeria is still suffering from over-reliance on oil and that has really affected our growth as a nation.

I was in South Africa last week, and marveled at the rate the South Africans are driving the global economy as one of the richest countries in the world.

“Badagry is a complete tourist site that is very close to the border and tourists from Benin Republic, Togo and Ghana can easily visit Badagry and inject several millions of their currencies into the Nigerian economy,” he said.
