Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been urged to appoint a special adviser on project management to end the era of uncompleted projects in the nation’s capital.

A project management specialist, Mr Victor Eshiemokhai, gave the advice yesterday at a press briefing on behalf of project management experts.

He said the present FCT administration has a good developmental vision for residents, but the vision cannot be actualised without the support of experienced and qualified team.

Eshiemokhai said for effective delivery of projects in the FCT, the minister, Nyesom Wike, needs to appoint a special adviser on project management that would serve as an intermediary between the administration and contractors.

He said the minister does not need anything much to ensure that projects are duly completed and the city is transformed the way he wants, other than appointing someone to monitor the activities of contractors in the territory.

“Because there is no way the minister can do everything himself, no matter how hard-working or intelligent he is. He needs the services of very highly specialised project management consultants to be in between, to ensure that the project management requirements are being active on projects.

“So, I will advise the minister of FCT to look for an experienced and qualified, project management special adviser, who will ensure the effective delivery of all the projects in the FCT.

“Why I say that I love Wike’s involvement in the FCT is because he has been one of such politicians I have admired so much. Does that mean that he is a saint? No. Does that mean that one way or the other, he is not doing what others are doing? I do not know.

“But the fact is that he ensures that projects are completed according to the scope, and he follows up till completion. So, when people say that politicians are being uncompromising, it comes to how the project specification has been defined,” he said.
