Abductors of the female lecturer with the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Dr Comfort Adokwe are demanding N15 million before her release.
A source within the institution told LEADERSHIP in confidence yesterday that a family member has been reached with demands and negotiations are on.
Dr Adokwe, a lecturer at the Faculty of Administration and deputy director of Gender Studies, was reportedly abducted from her home in Angwan Jaba in Keffi by gunmen Sunday night.
The hoodlums were said to have stormed the residence, shot sporadically into the air before making away with the lecturer.
The chairman of the Community Development Association, in the area, Comrade Ali Sule, had confirmed her abduction to newsmen in Keffi.
“It’s true, our beloved sister, Dr Comfort Adokwe, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen at her residence at Angwan Jaba here in Keffi.
“We pray that God keeps her safe, secure, and protected and returns her safely to us. We are calling on security agencies to move into action and bring her back safely,” he said.
The development came barely three weeks after four students of the institution were abducted from their Angwan Kare residence of the town.
The source said the assailants reached out to the husband of the lecturer and demanded N15 million.
“They demanded for N15 million when they called the husband this morning, but negotiation is on since both parties have not reached a middle ground,” she explained.
Also, a member of the institution’s Student Union Government (SUG), Solomon Julius Timmy confirmed that the gunmen have reached out to family members with demand.
He decried the rising Kidnap cases involving students and staff of the institution and appealed to security agencies and governments to do something urgently with a view to addressing the problem.
“There’s also the need to beef up security involving the police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the military across the town and the state in general so as to stem the tide of kidnapping that has become rampant in Keffi and the state,” he said.
