The Oyachaba K’Idoma, Dr Dickson Akoh, has joined other Nigerians to condemn the killing of innocent residents during the robbery incident that engulfed some banks in Otukpo town in Benue State last Friday.
In a press statement he released to journalists yesterday, Akoh said the attacks were too many that it must be nipped in the bud to avoid such occurrences in the future.
He recalled how a similar incident of bank robbery in Otukpo led to the killing of some police officers on duty in Ojali in cold blood a few years ago.
Akoh advocated intelligence gathering as panacea to the lingering security lapses that has left the area porous and often at the mercy of men of the underworld.
He said security men can achieve little if taken unawares in armed combat as witnessed in this case, adding that perpetrators of such organised crime must have studied the terrain and the security gaps before striking.
He called on Idoma sons and daughters to be united in finding lasting solutions to the security challenges in Benue South. According to him, no landmark development can be achieved without the security of lives and properties of the people.
He condemned the cold blood killing of a banker, some customers and police officers, including the divisional police officer (DPO) of Otukpo who lost their lives in line of duty while combating the criminals. He condoled with the families of the bereaved, asking God to console them.
