FAAN Conducts Bomb Threat Simulation Exercise At Lagos Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), on Thursday, said it conducted a full-scale security emergency exercise at the Murtala  Muhammed  International  Airport, Ikeja, Lagos

In a press statement by the director, Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, FAAN, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, the exercise was to assess the  level  of preparedness of the Airport to respond to emergencies.

He, however, disclosed that all security agencies at the airport responded promptly to the exercise

“A bomb threat simulation exercise was carried out  to  assess  the  level  of preparedness of the Murtala Muhammed Airport to respond  to emergencies. The Police Bomb Squad, Nigeria Police Force, Aviation Security (AVSEC), Fire service ,Medicals, Handling Companies, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigeria Airforce and FAAN responded to the threat spontaneously.

“The  exercise  took place  during  the check- in of Ethiopian Airlines  departing passengers. Evacuation  of passengers from the hall was carried out successfully.”

The agency, however, advised passengers to go about their activities, saying no cause for alarm.

“The exercise was conducted at the baggage  hall of International Terminal 1. Consequently, we advise that people should not panic  but  go about their activities as there is no cause for alarm,” he stressed.
