The commissioner for justice and public order, Fidelis Mnyim, who made this known during a meeting with pensioners in Makurdi to intimate them on the dangers of the garnishee orders obtained by some pensioners, said 95 per cent of the orders flying around are from pensioners.

He said, “We are here to dialogue with you to see how you can persuade your colleagues who have obtained garnishee orders against the government to withdraw it in order not to distract the governor.”

Also, the chairman of Benue State Pension Commission, Terna Ahua, who commended the state government over its commitment to the plight of pensioners said the total pension arrears in the state was N163.7 billion.

The state chairman of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Comrade Mike Vembeh, said the union had accepted the proposal of the state government to withdraw all pending cases because the new administration had demonstrated enough commitment to addressing the needs of pensioners.
