70-year-old Mother Commits Suicide In Delta

A mother of nine has allegedly committed suicide in Delta State by hanging with her wrapper in the public toilet.

The act, which has thrown the community into confusion, occurred in Enamejewa Street, off Warri/Sapele road, Warri in Warri South local government area.

The deceased, who was over 70 years, hailed from Olomu Kingdom, Ughelli South local government area, it was gathered had allegedly threatened to take her life by drinking a poisonous substance the previous day.

The devout Christian of the Roman Catholic faith was however reported to have eventually carried out her threat by hanging herself with her wrapper in the public toilet of the compound she lived in on Monday.

It was gathered that it was one of her granddaughters who sensed that something was amiss when she observed that her grandmother had over stayed in the toilet.

The little girl was said to have raised an alarm that attracted the co-tenants and neighbours when she saw the ugly sight of her grandmother hanging to death.

It was also gathered that the remains of the mother of nine has been deposited in the mortuary of Central Hospital, Warri.

 

The cause of the suicide was not known at the time of filing this report as there was no written note from the woman.

 

The police public relations officer of Delta State command, DSP Bright Edafe, said he had not been properly briefed.
