Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Saturday’s governorship election in Kogi State, Murtala Ajaka, has alleged that fake election result sheets were deployed to Okene, Okehi and Adavi local government areas of the State by the electoral officers posted to the areas.

He claimed that the original result sheets had been taken to unknown locations where false results will be inputed.

“The original result sheets in Okene, Okehi and Adavi local governments are missing. And they are busy arranging the result sheets now. The returning officers in those areas should be questioned,” Mr Ajaka said while addressing journalists after casting his ballot on Saturday.

He said that apart from the observations in the identified three local government areas, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had set up a good process for a credible election in the state.

“Apart from those three local governments, every arrangement INEC has made is good,” he declared.

Ajaka expressed optimism that he would win the election, saying he has the majority of supporters among the contestants.

Recall that a toremost civil society organisation (CSO) and one of the accredited election observer groups in the ongoing Kogi State governorship election, Yiaga Agrica, had raised the alarm over pre-recorded election sheets in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The two result sheets were filled in two local government areas of Ogori/Magongo and Okehi.

Yiaga Africa’s discovery comes before the commencement of the election exercise on Saturday morning, calling on INEC to quickly investigate and address the anomaly to safeguard the integrity of the process.

Taking to its official X account (formerly Twitter, the CSO wrote: “Dear @inecnigeria we received report of pre-filled results sheet discovered in PU 004, Eni Ward of Ogori/magongo in Kogi state before commencement of voting. Kindly investigate and address this issue promptly to safeguard the integrity of the process.

“Another case of pre-filled results sheet in PU 020, Eika/Ohizenyi, Okehi LGA of Kogi state.”
