Residents and indigenes of Bayelsa State yesterday applauded the peaceful conduct of the governorship election in the state.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP Sunday at Unit 002, Ward 4 in Ogbia local government area of the state, a businessman, Nnanna Raymond, said the exercise was peaceful in the area.

Raymond, who is an indigene of Abia State, said: “As Igbo businessmen residing in Bayelsa State, we need a government that will sustain the existing peace in the state. Where there is peace, there is progress and prosperity.

“We want to make sure that in the next four years there is more prosperity. The exercise in this unit and entire Ogbia local government area has been calm without any news of violence.”

Another resident, Madam Ebi Jonah, said it was a welcome development that a governorship election went on without much violence.

She said: “Some of us are from this state and I just voted in my polling unit in Kpansia area of Yenagoa. Although, there were disagreements at the beginning of the exercise, I must say this is one of the most peaceful elections we have witnessed in Bayelsa State. I am from Nembe, I have not heard of any bad news from there. I want Bayelsa people to sustain this tempo.”

Managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, also described the processes as peaceful.
