NSIB Probes Valuejet Plane Incident In Port Harcourt

Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), has commenced investigations into the incident involving a Bombardier CRJ-900LR aircraft with Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-BXR belonging to Valuejet Airlines which occurred around 3:32pm (local time) on 14th November, 2023.

NSIB, in a statement by its director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Dr James Odaudu last night, said it was notified about an incident and investigations have commenced.

He also said the aircraft, with 62 passengers and five crew upon landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport from Lagos overshoot the runway at runway 03 but no passenger was hurt.

 According to him, „The Bureau has commenced the process of unravelling the immediate and remote causes of the incidence, with our Investigators already at the scene.

“There was no injury or fatality, as all the passengers and crew members were safely evacuated and no damage to the aircraft was reported.

“The Bureau appeals to the public and the media to avoid speculations about the likely causes, while also respecting the privacy of those on board.“

The NSIB is a multimodal investigation agency charged with the mandate to investigate transportation accidents and serious incidents in Nigeria with the aim of identifying the probable causes and proffer safety recommendations that can prevent reoccurrence.
