A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Ina Omakwa Foundation, through its Sarina Project, has charged religious and traditional leaders to join the fight against human trafficking and gender-based violence.

The foundation made the appeal during a sensitisation campaign at Anglican Girls Grammar School in Abuja.

It highlighted vital signals of human trafficking syndicates that young girls must look out for and avoid.

The awareness campaign was organised in commemoration of the International Day for Eliminating Violence Against Women with the theme, “Speak up to end trafficking” at the Anglican Girls Grammar School in Abuja.

The project coordinator, Jeremiah Hussein, said the sensitisation is aimed at engaging the school girls in the dissemination of critical information and perspective surrounding the issues.
He said, ” We came here today to teach these wonderful students that crimes like this exist and the things they should watch out for and to avoid it.”

He said the ugly trend of human trafficking must be addressed from the roots starting with the young people both male and female.
Hussein, therefore, called on religious leaders, NGOs and the police to come together in order to sensitise young girls across the country about human trafficking.
