The family of Robert Abbey, a staff member of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) who escaped electrocution by the whiskers, have threatened to drag the company to court for allegedly abandoning him in hospital.

They accused the PHEDC regional manager in-charge of Gamma 2, Rukpokwu, Port Harcourt, Engr. Nosakhare Okoro, of giving the directive that Abbey, who is currently bedridden, should be abandoned at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH).

The family, in a letter to Okoro, which was signed by their lawyer, Goodnews Obinna, said they would have no other option but to seek legal redress if the matter could not be settled amicably.

The letter read in part, “Sir, after hearing from our client, our law firm have decided to approach your highly revered office and person to see how this matter could be settled amicably.

“At this juncture, we are reluctant to mention legal proceedings. But take note that our client shall approach the court to seek redress if this issue is not quickly and amicably treated.”

The family accused the regional manager and the company of issuing query to the bedridden staff, instead of showing compassion and giving financial assistance to him.

They stated that the victim has so far spent over ₦400,000 in the hospital without any dime coming from the PHEDC.

The letter said the query issued to Abbey was unjustified and demanded that the company foot his hospital bills and also compensate for him for its negligence that nearly caused him his life.
