Action Aid Nigeria (AAN) has called for a sustainable future for Nigerians with its initiative to provide an opportunity to assess the nation’s current economic landscape, explore sustainable strategies and develop actionable policies for engagement at all government levels.

The country director of AAN, Andrew Mamedu, stated this yesterday in Abuja at the technical roundtable discussion themed, “Exploring the Economic Outlook of Nigeria.”

Mamedu said the initiative aims to tackle critical socio-economic challenges faced by Nigerians, advocating for policy alternatives and strategies to drive accelerated development.

He further emphasised the need to redefine borrowing purposes, focusing on value chain development, infrastructure and strategic human capital.

He said AAN collaboration involves various organisations like the Centre for Social Justice, SMEDAN, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria.

Mamedu emphasised the aim to foster dialogue, reflection and partnership to propel Nigeria towards a more equitable, just and sustainable future, focusing on social justice, gender equality and poverty alleviation.

The executive secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Tony Ojukwu, stressed the critical importance of safety in farming, linking it directly to food security, social stability and human rights.

Ojukwu highlighted the right to an adequate standard of living, which encompasses access to food, shelter and healthcare and urged accountability from security enablers such as the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the police and the Army, stressing their responsibility to ensure farmers’ safety.
