Kano To Host National Council On Environment

The Kano State Government said it is making arrangements to ensure a smooth and seamless 17th edition of the National Council On Environment (NCE) around mid December.

The State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Rt. Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo, disclosed this while inaugurating the state Local Organising Committee (LOC) in his office at the weekend.

While stressing the importance of having a habitable environment and mitigating the impact of climate change, the commissioner expressed the government’s commitment to champion the environmental course, saying the present administration would not hesitate to do what is expected in view of its significance.

According to Garo, Kano will host the event with all the 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He thanked the federal government for choosing Kano to host the event, and also charged members of the various subcommittees to work assiduously for the success of the event.

He added that the selection of the chairmen, secretaries and members of various sub-committees was based on merit and their track record of experience.

The state local steering committee has Sule Garo as Chairman with Salisu Idris, Director Administration as the Secretary of the committee.

The Secretariat Sub-committee has Alh. Abba Danguguwa Permanent Secretary, Human Resources Office of the Head of Service as chairman, while Ismail Gwadabe would serve as secretary, others are Publicity Subcommittee with Ismail Garba Gwammaja, Director Publicity, Ministry of Environment as Chairman of the committee with Hauwa Abdullahi as Secretary.

“The Protocol and Accommodation Sub-committee has Engr. Abdullahi Shehu Bichi, SA on Environment and Sanitation as Chairman while Bayero Ibrahim Gamoji as Secretary.

“Security Sub-committee is to be chaired by Dr. Garba Saleh Ahmad, Director monitoring and evaluation ministry of environment, with Hamid Sidi Ali as Secretary.

“Others are Medical Sub-committee with Hussaini Aliyu MD/SKP as Chairman while Nasiru Abdullahi Maikano as Secretary; Transport Sub-committee has Aminu Kabir as Chairman with Ashiru Abdullahi as Secretary; Entertainment Sub-committee has Hon. Ahmad Abba Yusuf, ES History and Culture Bureau as Chairman while Ibrahim Sule Ahmad as Secretary.

Meanwhile the committees have three days to submit its report from the day of its inauguration, the commissioner noted.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alh. Aliyu Yakubu Garo, on behalf of the chairmen, secretaries and other members of all the Sub-committee expressed delight for selecting them to serve in this capacity and pledged to work tirelessly to achieve the set targets within a short period of time to make Kano State government proud.
