The independent investigative panel on alleged negligence by the Maitama District Hospital, leading to the death of Miss Greatness Olorunfemi, has exonerated the hospital.

The report revealed that she died before arriving at the hospital. The panel said she was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital.

Olorunfemi was a victim of the infamous “One Chance” robbery of September 26, 2023, and was pronounced dead by the hospital.  The FCT administration, thereafter, set up a nine-man investigative panel on the alleged case of negligence in the Maitama District Hospital.

The secretary, health services and environment, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, who received the report yesterday, said following media reports claiming that the victim died from negligence by medical personnel in the hospital, the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, set up the panel to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death, with a major term of reference to determine if she died in the hospital or was brought in dead.

Fasawe regretted that the painful death of Olurunfemi was due to insecurity in the FCT.

However, she expressed the determination of the FCT minister towards beefing up security in the territory, particularly issues of one-chance with the planned introduction of mass transit buses in the nation’s capital.

The secretary, while apologising to the family because the body of their late daughter was not treated properly, noted that the profession’s “dignity in death” principle tended to handle dead bodies with dignity.

The chairman of the investigative panel, Prof. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, who presented the report, noted that there was no sufficient evidence to show that Olorunfemi died in Maitama District Hospital.

Mohammed stressed that the report which relied on CCTV footage obtained from the emergency centre of the hospital and witnesses did not indicate that there was any discussion between the medical personnel and the “Good Samaritan”, meaning there was no demand for Police report.

The report also showed that the victim was attended to within five seconds of arriving at the hospital.
