A philanthropist, Prince Tonye Princewill, and prominent Ijaw activist, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, have resolved to off-set the medical bills of a 32-year-old man, who was injured during the funeral rites of the late Amanyanabo of Kalabari Kingdom, King Theophilus Princewill, in Rivers State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the victim sustained a severe injury on his right hand after he tried to get rid of a cannon shot that erroneously landed on the speed boat during the funeral rites of the late monarch at the Abonnema Wharf in Port Harcourt.

It was further gathered that as a result of the accident, the victim’s right hand from his wrist below was left shattered into pieces.

Princewill, who spoke after visiting victim at the Creek Hospital, Off William Jumbo Old GRA, Port Harcourt, described him as a hero who averted what would have led to an even more terrible incident.

He said, “We are very proud of him, he was prepared to sacrifice himself to save many people and our job is to make sure that we make sacrifices to save him and do our bit to try to make sure that he can get back the use of his hand.”

Princewill, who is the scion of the late monarch, assured the victim that already three parties, including Alhaji Asari Dokubo, the health subcommittee and himself have all offered to foot the medical bill.

He also added that they will not abandon him.

He stated that in addition, to help and remediate the situation, he has put the Port Harcourt medical team in touch with American Hospital in Dubai who are currently in Nigeria as part of a joint venture agreement with RivExcel.

Princewill further stated that both medical teams have now begun the detailed discussion on how best to arrange for a possible prosthesis to augment the lost hand with an artificial one.
