ActionAid Empowers 300 Youths, Women In Kaduna

ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) with funding from Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) in partnership with Global Peace Development (GPD) has empowered 300 youths and women with starter packs worth N42 million in Kaduna.

The deputy governor of Kaduna State, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who opened the “System and Structure Strengthening Approach against Radicalisation to Violent Extremism (SARVE III) Livelihood Project” in Kaduna yesterday affirmed Governor Uba Sani’s commitment in fighting violence extremism.

“The state government is focusing on providing our youths and women with relevant skills that will make them employable and competitive with the global job market. We believe that by equipping our youths and empowering them as well will secure their future that will make them succeed in life,” she said.

The deputy governor who was represented by the deputy chief of staff, Barr James Kanyip, said the state government is committed to promoting social inclusion, aimed at lifting people out of poverty.

The country director, ActionAid Nigeria who was represented by manager AAN Humanitarian and Resilience Unit, David Habba, said, “We have handed livelihood equipment to 300 Kaduna indigenes worths N42 million to better their means of livelihood”.

“It is important to prevent violence extremism because someone who is hungry is prone to negative vices including violence and radicalization. We want to keep our youths busy,” she added.

Earlier in his welcome address, the executive director, Global Peace Development, Esike Ebruke, explained that the initiative holds immense potential to transform lives of youths and women in Kaduna community, empowering them to take charge of their destinies and secure sustainable source of income.

“The primary objective of this programme is to equip our youth and women with the necessary entrepreneurial skills, enabling them to not only own valuable assets but also to ensure long-term income security. By fostering a spirit of entrepreneurship, we aim to unleash their potential and enable them to contribute meaningfully to the economic growth and development of our society,” he said.
