Accidental Bombing: Ex-Defence Chief, Gen Agwai Calls For Caution

Former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Martin Luther Agwai (retd), has called for caution as Nigerians continues to trade blame over the accidental bombing of innocent civilians in Tundun Biri village of Igabi local government area of Kaduna State.

Recall that the Nigerian military trailing terrorists on Sunday, December 3, 2023, in Kaduna State mistakenly bombed innocent civilians in Tudun Biri village of Igabi local government area of the State.

Speaking at the graduation lecture of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EMIC), 16, National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Abuja, an education arm of the Department of State Services (DSS), Gen. Agwai (retd), said, “all life matters and he totally condemns the killing of innocent lives in Kaduna.

“However, we should condemn with caution inorder not to demoralize the military in operations. We admit that there are mistakes in operations and this is why we call for caution so that there military will not demoralized.”

Gen Agwai, who is the guest lecturer of the event also said if the criticism is not properly handled, the military could become afraid of carrying out operations for fear of mistakes and this will not be good for the country in the fight against insecurity.

Also speaking, the representative of the director general of the Department of State Services, director of training, Mrs Bola Orufe charged the participants be good ambassadors of the institute.

Also, the commandant of National Institute of Security Studies, Ayodele Adeleke, said 86 participants graduated from the EMIC 16, which started on February 13, 2023.

Speaking on the theme of the event, “Rebuilding Trust in Plural Societies: Part ways for Sustainable Development in Africa” Adeleke said it is apt as it addresses issues like peace building among others.

This year’s EMIC Course 16 had 89 participants and three died in the course of the 10-month programme.
