The award, which confers on him an international status as a Peace Diplomat, will be bestowed on him by the International Association Of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at De Venue Event Centre in Lagos.

A statement issued to journalists in Abuja and signed by the International Spokesman of the association, Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke, said Obi Cubana is receiving the award in recognition of his philanthropic activities, which have been well documented.

Amb. Nkweke said that IAWPA, being an association of global citizens with peace initiatives, found Dr. Obinna Iyiegbu a.k.a Obi Cubana worthy of appointment as Mayor of Peace, a position which the association said will help provide a global and well recognised platform for him to continue impacting on peace no matter where he finds himself.

IAWPA is a globally recognised peace advocacy group with a Special Consultative Status under the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (UN) since 2019. The association is also well recognised for being at the forefront of the advocacy for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
