The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed sadness over the death of Chief Frank Kokori, a former labour leader at the age of 80 years.

The labour centre said Kokori would be remembered as a labour leader that gave his all  for Nigeria  to have democracy.

In a statement issued by the NLC national president, Comrade Joe Ajaero in Abuja, the centre described  Kokori as a “dogged and fearless fighter” who gave his all for the cause of democracy and workers’ rights in Nigeria.

“Our hearts are with his biological  family and the NUPENG family where he was general-secretary and other associates, we offer our condolences.

“For his stoic and heroic struggle for the enthronement of democracy, he was arrested and detained by the military  alongside other labour leaders  for spells  of time under inhumane conditions,” the statement said.

It urged the federal government and the Delta State government to immortalise Chief Kokori for his contributions to the nation.

It also criticised those who collaborated with the military in the past and are now in positions of influence, saying they have no moral right to tell labour not to be involved in politics.
