The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), on Saturday, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The group made this statement through its President General, Goodluck Ibem.

COSEYL said that releasing Kanu would demonstrate Tinubu’s commitment to the rule of law and respect for court orders, values he championed during his involvement in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) against military rule.

“President Tinubu has before now been an advocate of the rule law and respect for court orders which informed his decision to be part of NADECO which fought against military junta and dictatorship,” the statement read

“The unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu will prove that President Tinubu says and stands by what he professes and fought for in the past during the military era.”

COSEYL also expressed the hope that releasing Kanu would bring an end to the insecurity plaguing the southeast region. The group anticipates widespread celebration throughout the region upon Kanu’s release, particularly following the Supreme Court’s scheduled hearing on his case on December 15th, 2023.

“We will celebrate President Tinubu for upholding the rule of law and respecting the Court judgment by releasing Nnamdi Kanu from DSS custody.”
